Alabama uses the Income Shares Model, combining both parents' gross incomes to determine a base amount from a state schedule (up to $30,000 combined monthly income). It then apportionately divides the obligation based on each parent's share of the total income, adjusting for health insurance and childcare costs.
If there is a court-ordered 50/50 split (Shared Physical Custody), Alabama uses Form CS-42-S. This applies a 150% multiplier to the basic obligation before dividing based on percentages and crediting actual time.
The obligation varies based on both parents' combined adjusted gross income, scaled against the state tabular schedule. The schedule caps at $30,000 combined monthly income, after which courts hold broad discretion to adjust payment.
